This weekend was spent in Portland, Me. I had a ton of great beer, however almost all of it was “off the record” as I was “off duty” if you will. One beer I did write down some notes for was the Bull Jagger Portland Lager.
The beer is a Munich Helles Lager and is only 4.5% ABV. I had my mother-in-law try it and she said “lemony and puckery!” She is right. Up front there was a ton of sweet corn/grain flavor, followed by a tart lemon finish. Ultimately I didn’t like it a whole lot.
Apparently the brewery recently went out of business. The bottle I had was one of the few remaining. Long story short, most pointless review ever!
Last night my wife had her Ecolissa model Michelle over to the house. Lucky for me, Michelle recently traveled to Germany and brought me back a bottle of Augustiner Edelstoff.
I reviewed this beer once before when my brother & sister in-law got me a bottle of this.
The brew is exactly how I remember it: a slightly skunky aroma, with a super-buttery mouthfeel and flavor. Some corn-like flavors also come through. It goes down ridiculously fast; I could throw this stuff back for days.
Michelle liked the brew too, saying “it’s succulent on the lips” and “I just want to keep feeling it on my tongue”. #innuendos if I’ve every heard one…
Many, many thanks to Michelle for bringing me an absolutely fantastic beer from overseas!!!
