Taking some notes on my first beer. Curvee Angelique Deglazen Toren. Bitter unripe apple flavors mellowed out with caramel flavors.
Saturday we shot up to Portland for an impromptu tweetup. I had only been planning it for a week, so I figured if we got 10 people I would be lucky. And we got just about 10 people!
I held the event at Novare Res Bier Café. We first visited the bar when we went to Portland this past spring, and I knew it would be a great location for a tweetup.
The day did NOT start off smooth. After getting up and driving the 2.5 hours to Portland, we arrived at Novare Res around 12:30. I was planning the event to run form 1-5. We walked up to the door and were stunned when the joint didn’t open until 2:00. I had checked the website and could have swore it opened at 12:00! DOOOOOH.
Melissa is ready for a tweetup!
Thanks to the smart phone I was able to email and tweet to all the attendees letting them know that the tweetup would start at 2:00 instead. Disaster averted.
The tweeps that showed up were as follows:
Chaddah – Chad. Been chatting with Chad for a long time on Twitter. Glad he decided to pack the family up and drive the 2 hours south to meet us in Portland.
JLothian – Jessica, Chad’s wife. Mom. A professional (architect? I forget). Beer lover.
babylothian – Spawn of Chad & Jessica. Was a super cutie.
rdlugosz – Ryan, in technology. Loves photography. His wife Heather joined us later in the evening.
OPC_Tom – Tom, owner of Old Port Candy Co. Brought along his friends Dev & Danielle.
Melissa was trying out all kinds of new cider.
A special mention needs to go out to ConstantCritic – Mark, in technology as well (internet marketing?). Mark used to live in Denver. We’ve been twitter friends for a long time. He recently moved out to Portland. We have been saying since he moved that we needed to finally meet. The tweetup was ultimately the result of a chat Mark and I had about 10 days ago. VERY glad we finally got to meet. I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot more of Mark and his non-tweeting girlfriend Rachel.
Another shot of my Deglazen Toren. Other notable beers I had but did not review: Bravik Petrus Aged Pale and Delirium Tremens.
After a long afternoon at Novare Res, a bunch of us agreed to take a 90 minute break and then meet up for dinner. We had already made plans to go to dinner with Mark and Rachel, and we were super-stoked when Chad, Jessica, Ryan, and Heather said they wanted to come along as well.
We ended up at the Great Lost Bear. Great tap list. Good food options, including stuff for vegetarians.
Unfortunately Chad and Jessica couldn’t find parking and were not able to join us. So sad…they were missed.
Tom, Dev, Danielle
We chatted, drank great beer, and watched the Bruins game. Everyone had a great time. Such a good time that I neglected to take any pictures of all of us at the Great Lost Bear.
More cider for Melissa
We were all exhausted and decided to call it a night after nearly 8 hours of drinking. I couldn’t have been happier with how this impromptu tweetup played out. While normally I have 40-50 people at a tweetup, it was really nice to be able to relax and actually get to know some people…I like the idea of having smaller tweetups periodically.
Many, many thanks to all of you who came out. You’re the reason that this weekend was so much fun and so successful. I hope our paths cross again soon!
Mark switched over PBR at the Great Lost Bear. Classic picture. Great way to end the evening.
